I took a Philosophy module for my Computer Science course because, well, I can. I attended the first lecture today and had a go at some philosophical logic to get me thinking:

I see a chair. I am relatively sure I'm in a sane frame of mind. Therefore I can conclude that the chair exists. However, that is purely a subjective view as the existence of the chair is dependant purely on my own experience. Therefore the chair is not proven to exist. I ask someone else whether they also see the chair. They do. Therefore I can conclude the chair exists. However, merely asking someone else or many people if they share my opinion of the chair's existence is a fallacious line of reasoning.

If we apply to the same logic to another scenario we can see why:

The Emperor is walking naked through the streets but believes he is wearing clothes of the finest thread. He asks everyone else and they agree that he is wearing magnificent clothes. Does this mean that he is wearing clothes? Not necessarily.

So if we ask many people whether the chair exists and they agree it doesn't necessarily mean the chair exists. The same argument can be applied to touching rather than seeing the chair or, in fact, any sense. It's all subjective. Therefore, how can we know anything exists, is real or is true?

We can't. Therefore we must simply accept certain things as true in order to make further arguments and reasoning. Since Philosophy is the asking of questions and the arguing of answers and everything is not necessarily true, is there a point to Philosophy? Not necessarily.

So there's this cute girl who's doing work experience (or something in that vain) at the local Kindergarten. Today I found out it was her last day of working there. How very depressing, now I have nothing to look forward to when I have to take the kids there every morning. And we'd only just started talking (her English is about as good as my German so the conversations were probably pretty funny to watch). This job sucks ¬_¬

Well I think I've reached just the right level of tiredness to write this. The point at which your mind still works but is too tired to make sure you're not making an ass of yourself.

So... the plan is to get back to dA. In reality, this may or may not happen however that's what I'm aiming for. I know I've promised this about a million times before and never really managed it. But I've wiped the slate clean, grabbed some inspiration and, more importantly, managed to wrest some Free Time from the jaws of some giant free time-eating monster-thing (I'm sure we've all encountered it despite not knowing its name).

This journal is really not well-formulated by the way. As clearly demonstrated by this paragraph's existence. I have a list of things to say but no clear or flowing way to join them up. 'But you're a writer!' I hear you exclaim, 'Isn't that what you're supposed to be able to do?'. You make a very good point, in response I say 'Fuck you. My journal, I'll write whatever the hell I want.'. Good, glad we cleared that up.

So yeah, deleted pretty much everything. All the deviations are gone, all the messages, notes, news, activity - deleted, destroyed, decimated (decapitated? xD). Also I completely purged my watchlist. Obviously I couldn't leave it completely blank. All my IRL friends are still on there. It's a good way to see who's still around. If you knew me before and are reading this, write me a comment! We can become friends all over again because, no offence, I've probably forgotten you and all the good times we shared. Not because I didn't really care but because I have a terrible memory. Terribly efficient in fact. Anything that is not immediately relevant or useful gets put in the Recycle Bin and after 30 days is deleted. It's true. Now you know, you can play games with my crap-bag memory.

Just to get you up-to-speed on things. I finished school. I pwned my A-levels and got the highest point score in the college along with 2 other people. This means I can go to Warwick University which I'm very happy about. It's not Cambridge but meh, they're all dicks anyway. Look at my A-levels bitches, now I bet you're wishing you accepted me. Those A-levels again (they're all A-level grades by the way, not AS-levels which are only half the points):

Maths - A
Further Maths - A
Physics - A
Chemistry - A
German - C

OK, so, finished school. Warwick University. But not yet. I'm taking a year out and spending as an Au-Pair in Germany. In fact, I'm writing this right now in an apartment in Stuttgart. I thought I was up pretty late. Ugly, old, fat woman with red hair in the apartment block opposite has gone to sleep but trendy, young dude with what-looks-like-some-sort-of-beard still seems to be up. The light's still on in his room (as with mine) which, by the way, he seems to spend all his time in. Anyway, I digress. I'm an Au-Pair. Remember this, it's important you hold this word in your mind as I describe my job. Under no circumstances let that bastard of a word 'Nanny' creep into your head because that's most definitely what I am not.

Aha, I see what you did there. You think I'm a Nanny now don't you? Pretty funny eh? Will it still be funny when I find your family? Still laughing after I decapitate your sister, pull out her eyeballs and mail them to you? How about I rip off your mother's arm, use it to beat your father to death and then fill his body full of explosives, send his nicely-packed corpse to your house and detonate him? How does that sound to you? Au-Pair it is then? Good, wasn't hard now was it?

Yeah so this is how it goes. I wander into Germany to live with a family I've never met before (obviously I've spoken to them though). I help out around the house with whatever's needed but mainly I look after the kids. They have a 4-year-old named Marius and a 2-year-old named Florian. There will be some pics up on Flickr at some point. I have to work 6 hours a day, I get weekends off, free food and my own room and €300 / month allowance. Don't really want to say much more about this, I'm sure I'll be bitching about things in future journals.

'Why the hell have you come back to dA? You only ever posted crappy photos and desktop screenshots. What kind of a writer are you?'. I know, I know. I'm a terrible writer. But really I never had time. I only wanted to zomb-out on weekends since school was such a drag. The same for holidays. I love writing when I get into it but it can be hard-work sometimes. Now I have a much less-stressful day (well, sometimes) and plenty of time for writings. Plus I was reading some of my old notes and I really want to get back into The Burning.

To be honest, all I was doing with my free time before was playing Dofus. It's obviously really fun or otherwise I wouldn't spend the obscene amount of time on it as I do but now I just want to use it to have a bit of a goof-around with some friends. I mean, I took a step back and looked at the situation. I was spending hours of my life increasing numbers in a database. I mean, I didn't even care that it was boring as hell. It was great when I could do some dungeons with friends but most of the time was spent by myself, grinding. I can share my writing. Even if no-one else reads it, it's there, tangible and I can feel proud of it.

So yeah, I've decided Retribution isn't changing (except for the comma I need to add in the first paragraph, if you can spot where then you get a cookie). I can't add more to it without destroying a part of what made it special. It needs to stay short, simple and mysterious. If I explain too much of it then the reader loses the freedom to imagine it and invent it themselves. Besides, I'm not sure what I was smoking when I wrote that but it's the only piece of writing I'm satisfied with. It doesn't need any changing or tweaking. I doubt I'll be able to reproduce the same style in any subsequent work.

The Burning needs to be finished. That'll take years but I at least want to give people a bit more of an idea of what's going on, get some of the world setup and explained. The Prologue needs to be rewritten. I thought Ch. I pt. i needed to be rewritten too but after reading it I think it works very nicely.

I also want to try dumping everything into scraps as it's being written. That way, if people are interested, they can see all the changes I make and even give me suggestions (that's what we have dA for right? Constructive criticism) until the piece is finished to a suitable level and moved to the gallery.

I'm sure there were some other things I had to say but, as usual, despite having a list, I didn't actually write it down and so all I now have is a fuzzy outline of a list-thing floating in my tired, little head.

Quite the essay up there eh? Well it's not the real reason for my return. The only reason I'm coming back to dA is because I've noticed there are far too many noobs about. They need a good pwning and the current noob-pwners just can't keep up with the huge influx of noobs.

Well, noobs beware (you know who you are). I have sarcasm and I'm not afraid to use it.

Well all my exams are finished. I didn't find them much of a problem. Obviously I was stressing about them a lot beforehand but now they're over I think I did alright. I might have to eat my words when the results come out...

So at least that means I can get back into the usual swing of things. I don't have much more free time because I still have to go to school and do all my A2 stuff in preparation for next year. I'll be able to check dA more regularly now though and I plan to catch up with everything I've missed so far at the weekend. I'll check all my comments etc. although I may have to skip the journals >_<

I've got 554 deviations to look at at the current count. Goddammit people, slow down a bit x_x. But yes, I will eventually get through them all and leave some comments here and there as usual.

There are a bunch of responsibilities I've been avoiding using my exams as an excuse. I've got some snail mail to send out (you know who you are) and some websites need doing etc.

'So what did you actually do during all that time you were avoiding dA?' you ask. Well you'd think I would have done some revision and that was the idea. I did intend to do some sort of revision. But you know... I mainly just played Dofus.

Anyway, it's nice to be back.

Uh... yeah just worked out I have about 3 weeks before final AS-level exams. That means no more dA for at least a month, probably more.

You'd think I'd revise using the extra free time but you'd be wrong. I never seem to revise for exams. Teachers have just piled on extra homework so I need more time to do that as well as all my musical involvements.

Right, I'm not gonna be on for a while. There are few things I gotta do in the coming weeks which include school stuff, band practices, trips to Spain and Germany, website commissions and moving the Elemental Design site to a new host among other things.

This means I will be occasionally checking dA but I won't be answering any comments, commenting on any deviations/journals unless they're particularly important. I may also end up with a bunch of deviantWATCH stuff at the end of it all which I'll be inclined to delete being the lazy bastard I am. If there's something you'd really like my opinion on or are particularly proud of and think I'd like it (that includes any stories/comics that are still going, don't wanna miss those :D ) then note me and I'll definitely have a look once I get back.

Since I'm effectively shirking my duties here for a few weeks I thought I'd make it up to everyone by promising to have the first chapter of The Burning done before I get back.

So that's it, I'm off.
Ciao for now ;)

It's been one of those crazy weeks again. You'd think after my mid-year exams were over things'd cool off a bit. Sadly that's not the case and last week especially I found myself swamped with schoolwork.

On top of that we were asked on Tuesday to play at a Battle of the Bands today (well, yesterday seeing as it's just gone midnight).

So I suppose this is an apology from me for not doing my usual commenting. I try my best to comment stuff as I know it's nice to see comments on work you've spent a lot of time on however I've just had too much to do recently. I made sure I looked at everyone's new work though and I'm quite impressed with how much great art there is out there.

Oh yeah this is a journal so I suppose I should write some stuff about my indifferent existance. I apologise for the scattered thoughts, this journal entry's badly structured.

Yes, anyway, school seems to have taken over most of my life. It's not quite as fun as having someone else take over your life and do everything for you.

Uh, I've been working on teh SwirlyBlue Noticeboard as well for two reasons. One is to get to know the new Mootools javascript library and the other is to help me stop forgetting everything >_<
It's coming along well I suppose, about 3/4s of the way there although I may have to rewrite some of it as Mootools version 1 came out in the middle of my development of it

As you've probably guessed we put Sobriquet back together and managed to nab Kerry as a singer to put on this one show last night. It went well I thought, we had to fill a stupidly long slot with only four songs but we managed it and we're gonna try and practise more regularly; maybe do some more gigs.

I'm gonna work on learning to play slap bass properly mainly because I have nothing better to do in the little free time I have.

I can't think of much else. :icondragonskin: managed to get me a beta account at the new which is pretty cool. It looks like a really well-designed site and is bound to be good fun once it's done. I also shadied in a Sobriquet account as it's a music-oriented site that is really good for bands. So you may see some recordings/videos up there in the future. It also means I now have two sites for my main hobbies, art and music (it could be argued that they're the same thing).

Finally, just a quick shout out to my special friend  as it was her birthday last Friday. Go give her some love  she deserves it for being just generally awesome :aww:

I went down to London with my friend Paddy this weekend to see Gogol Bordello play at Brixton Academy. Some of you may have heard of them, they're self-proclaimed 'Gypsy Punks'.

I have to say I've seen a few bands live (Velvet Revolver to name one) but this was really something else. If you've heard any of their stuff, they have some damn good songs but their live show blows away any recorded stuff.

It was in all honesty the best concert I have ever been to. It's hard to explain but the atmosphere was just amazing, everyone was going crazy (but in the nice, jumping up and down way). They never really slowed down either. No long drawn-out speeches to the crowd about random irrelevant stuff. They just played hard and fast and it was the kind of music everyone loves.

We got about one small break before the encore and even that was awesome. They really played the crowd to death, I was close to collapsing from exhaustion myself.

I was chattin' to some girl on the Tube journey back who'd also been at the gig. She'd apparently seen them a couple of times before and reckoned that night's gig was the worst out of the three! I really couldn't believe it!

Anyway, I could go on forever about it but if you ever get the chance to pick up any of their albums or even see them live, I would seriously recommend it no matter your music tastes. It really was an unforgettable performance.

PS. Their supporting band were Bedouin Soundclash who you may not have heard of but they did the song on that T Mobile advert (the one where all the buildings fall down and such). Very nice band, I think they may be Canadian but I'm not sure.

Got my legs waxed last night.

For charity that is... I don't just like having my legs waxed. It wasn't as bad as people made out. There were a few other guys doing it too and I got through around 20 strips before they ran out. So if you think my legs are now all shiny and smooth... you'd be wrong. They're only shiny and smooth in places >_<

So yeah that all happened at Caris' birthday party thing. As usual I think I was the only sober person there but it was still pretty fun eating Coco pops at 1am and dancing to Muse :D. I also became the undisputed champion of Soul Calibur II despite never having played it on the abomination that is PS2 (btw, I did notice it takes about 5 times longer to load a new battle on the PS2 than it does on the Xbox). Yes... I play video games at parties... I also find the place where the least amount of people are (usually 0) and eat sweet stuff (it was gingerbread men this time )... I sure am a blast at partays...

In other news, (the new name for is set to bring out its massive update this weekend which should be fine because I've done all the big tasks (like tag editing and the journal system). The only things left are things like writing something about me to put on the about page. I also apparently need a suitable picture so I might upload it as a devID if it turns out better than my current one and doesn't make me look ugly ¬_¬
I'll probably change it again fairly soon after I get off my lazy ass and book an appointment with the hairdresser >_<

Ah some... family issues have uh cropped up so I'm not feeling in the best of moods. I'm sure people won't notice it much, I'm good at hiding these things. So...

Firstly the biggest hug ever to  for the amazing package she sent me :aww: it was so wonderful I almost cried. Sorry I haven't been able to work out that japanese you gave me yet but what with all my homework and uh, other problems I haven't had time :( although I saw the first word was sushi :D :glomp:
Also, I haven't had time to finish your CD but I will try tomorrow and snail mail will be coming your way soon :D

As for everything else:
Band's going well, our singer came back to our school after realising college sucked which makes organising things easier.

I love the school jazz band, apparently I'm the 'anchor' because I play bass :D so I'm not complaining. The singer's all annoyed 'cos she has to sing songs written for men but it's all good. We somehow ended up with two sax players. Matt (the guitarist from our band) is playing keyboard and Liam (our drummer) is... playing drums. We've also got two guitarists (one being my brother) in a jazz band for some reason. They don't add much to it but hey it's a school band.

Kerry (our singer) lent me the Escaflowne movie Ultimate Edition which I was very pleased about, I shall be getting an unhealthy dose of anime over the weekend.

I'm off to see Gorgol Bordello in London with Paddy and his family which should be a blast :D.

And finally, Halloween is about a month away and you all know what that means? :icondragonskin:'s birthday! Hehe =P

OK, I'm off to bed (I'm tired ok?) so if there's anything I've missed I'll be sure to update...

Anyone feel like being tagged they can consider themselves so
My new bass guitar arrived today.

You can see pictures of it here

I may also upload some videos of me messing around on it :P
X_X Oh I'm so tired. I've had to rapidly adjust from getting up at around midday to 6.30am every morning and it doesn't feel too great. Despite that, school's been pretty good. 6th form's pretty cool 'cos you have a lot more freedom and I picked all the subjects I like so I never feel crap when I see a subject on my timetable. Anyway I picked Maths, Further Maths, Physics, Chemistry and German so that's 5 AS levels and my timetable's almost full with only 5 free lessons a week ¬_¬. I'm only getting 3 lessons of German (instead of the normal 4) which I guess is a bad thing but I hope I'll do OK.

What all that means is I'm gonna be a lot less active on here (and most of the internet) than I have been recently. So I'll try to get around to replying/commenting everything eventually, it just might take a while. Also, I have pretty much no time for my story right now so don't expect to see much more of that until the holidays...
